I have a new volume of poetry out! BREVITY from the good folks at Nun Prophet Press. BUY IT NOW as they say.
Here’s a description:
Brevity is composed entirely of cinquains, a five-line poetry form related to haiku. Cinquains were invented by Adelaide Crapsey; they're related to haiku and to blank verse, with syllables in the pattern 2/4/6/8/2. Crapsey's cinquains are generally imagistic and/or aphoristic, and some of Berlatsky's are in that mode as well. But he also goes further afield—light verse, romantic declarations, x-rated haiku adaptations, collage, algorithmic experimentation. This book is about how many different things can be poured into this small container, and therefore also about how many things can be poetry—at least briefly.
And below are a couple of verses from the book.
Mexico City
For lunch
ant eggs with worms.
900 pesos, though....
Only the rich can afford such
courage.Affliction
They say
heaven is sweet.
But what’s even sweeter
is the affliction when your love
walks by.Question
If I
write enough bad
poems very quickly
will I then become a real poet? The Incredible Hulk
Hulk poop
on Spider-Man.
Hulk poop on X-Men.
Hulk is full of rage. Also poop.
It stinks.
And lovely blurb:
"Noah Berlatsky weaves his special brand of introspection into each verse of Brevity A Cinquain Collection. His work is bold, sexy, innovative, witty, and at times bordering on satirical madness. Who could ask for anything more?"
—Roberta Beach Jacobson, Editor, Five Fleas Itchy Poetry
Again, this collection is just out. It’s priced cheap in the hope that some of you all will buy and enjoy. Please consider purchasing…and if you like it, maybe leave a little review and assure me my poeting is not in vain. Thanks all!
