Did You Know I Write Books?!
A free pdf of my book Nazi Dreams about fascism in film is attached for paid subscribers.
Hello! (waves) Almost half of you (!) just started following me over the last couple of days. Which is exciting! And somewhat paralyzing; I have a little bit of stage fright maybe.
But! Amidst the stage frighting and soul searching and what have you, it occurred to me that probably many of you aren’t aware that I have written book-like objects which might possibly be of interest if you are thinking, “I cannot possibly get enough Berlatsky content; I want more!”
My main book like object is about the original Wonder Woman comics; it’s called Wonder Woman: Bondage and Feminism in the Marston/Peter Comics, available from Rutgers University Press or from Amazon of course.
But! I’ve also got a bunch of ebooks. The most recent one is a discussion/list of the best albums of all time which tries to not get too bogged down in the usual suspects (no Beatles or Dylan…but death metal and Japanese ambient drone and hyperpop!)
I’ve also got books on female film directors, American political films and their obsession with corruption, and American punditry—the last one called Chattering Class War, which I still think is amusing, darn it.
The book that’s most related to some of my recent writing here is maybe Nazi Dreams, a collection about fascism in film, which covers films made by Nazis (like The Eternal Jew), films about Nazis (like Casablance and Inglorius Basterds) and films that lean into fascist values (like Dirty Harry).
You can buy Nazi Dreams directly as an ebook . But also! You could just join the substack right here, right now, and then scroooollll down. I’ve attached Nazi Dreams as a pdf to the end of this post behind the paywall.
