While I generally don't like Dem bashing for their fights regarding policy--democracy is ABOUT disagreements--I can't wrap my head around the continued support for Israel--both directly and by justifying quelling dissent by protestors. Are the pro-Israel lobby's donations THAT important? Would they be unable to campaign without that blood money?
I don't think it's necessarily about the money per se. AIPAC donations have swung primaries, so there's some worries about that, but in general they give money to people who already agree with them, rather than giving people money to change their minds.
I think there are a couple of things. Until quite recently, there was very broad bipartisan support for Israel; Ds supported Israel because voters did. In addition, post war liberalism and postwar American identity have been closely tied to America's role in WWII and to the vision of America as an ally of Jewish people. So I think a lot of Ds (like Biden) are just very sincere ideological zionists, and have been resistant to abandoning that vision of themselves despite the horrors that Israel has inflicted on Palestine (pre 10/7, and even moreso now.)
it does seem to be changing, but it's slow, and a lot of centrists—like Schumer and Jeffries—are very reluctant to acknowledge the new sentiment among Ds, in part I think because the right is still very, very pro Israel and centrists see it as an issue where they can appeal to right wing voters, who they kind of idolize.
I will give Biden enough credit to say that I think he was starting to change his tune on Israel, albeit slowly (as was his wont) and also unwilling to shift course during election season. I also feel like Harris was more willing to say "No" to Bibi the Butcher, but again—was she really going to repudiate the man who gave her her shot at the White House during the very shot run-up she had to the election?
I disagree with THE MAJORITY REPORT types who claim that refusal to tilt HARD "against Israel" cost Harris the election, because of how fucking antisemitic MAGA is, and how you'd have to be really far FAR FAR Left to believe Harris wouldn't be any better than Trump on the issue! I'm far more willing to believe the Broligarchs cheated to help Trump win because, unlike Putin, they can do a lot more than post a bunch of stupid memes....
Somebody as HATEFUL as Trump winning a second time?
Naw, it's cheating, and we just need to prove it—even if it's not at all true, for the pleasure of rubbing MAGA's NOSE in it like the disobedient dog they are, and punishing the Broligarchs for betraying us to Trump!

There is no credible argument that trump cheated. He won.
I don’t think there’s a strong case he won because of Gaza though. The main issue was inflation.

It’s not cheating. The us is a very hateful place. Leftists should know that!
