thank you for writing this so I didn't have to

Admittedly, I had to double-check whose Substack I was reading. Perfectly said!

These people are in for a rude fucking awakening, because I don't know a single Democratic voter who isn't itching to shove pitchforks up their asses to get them to do their fucking jobs. David Hogg is right. We need to primary every lazy, worthless, comfortable elected in the Democratic party. It's truly astonishing how feckless some of these people are.

Completely agree with David Hogg, yes.

They are so desperate for normalcy but are unwilling to do what it takes to get things back to normal. And Gavin needs to stop threatening to do these things and just do them. Yes, figure out a way to withhold federal taxes. Fight gerrymandering with more gerrymandering that benefits the Democrats. Heck, start the process to secede from the Union. But he won’t because he’s running for President. President of what, I don’t know, because if something doesn’t happen soon, it will be too late, and JD Vance will be POTUS for life.

"You seem . . . . upset."

Ugh, just kidding. I don't know what else we can do to set a fire under these people. I write, I call, I talk to staffers. I guess I'm not rich enough to count.

My husband and i were talking about this the other day. I get the impression that the Democrats in Congress are just waiting until "things settle down" (or something?) so that law-making and policy setting procedures will go back to the courtly days of old. You know, back to "normal."

It's not going to happen.

And if the D's in congress don't stand up to the current regime & show how truly angry the American people are, they'll continue losing votes.

That’s his excuse - Josh Hawley?! A psychic would be a more credible source.

I lost faith in January when, after having campaigned on ‘he’s a fascist and this is the end of democracy’ the party seemed to have done nothing to prepare for a fascist moving into the White House. Jeffries and Schumer still don’t have a plan while living in a police state that’s torturing people in concentration camps. They didn’t have to vote for any of the appointees. They’re too removed from reality. They can’t wish cast a better future.

I was shocked and appalled. wtf?!

Noah. You are in rare form. Or rather, rarer form than usual. Even your book reviews are typically pretty spicy. I couldn't agree more with your article. My throat is raw from screaming into the void. It is inconceivable that the dems are powerless to combat a demented pedophile who is surrounded by incompetent sycophants. What. Is. Wrong. Here?

What is wrong? I think goes back to Nixon’s Watergate. Following Watergate the idea came to the fore to get a television news station which only reported news which was favorable to Republicans.

I think the quote was, “when people are watching television they don’t think.”

Since repetition is the key to advertising, 50 years later Fox News has done its job and crossed the finish line, putting a broligarchy with its permanent AI, permanently in power.

If we want to know the future, it is modeled after Orban’s modern day Hungary. Orban even spoke at the Republican national convention, to great acclaim.

Sorry to run on…

I swear, I do NOT get the DNC's refusal to go after Trump with both barrels of the elephant gun, and destroy HIM and the Party that chose him.

It really starts to smell like "The Fix Is In—so long as we can PRETEND to oppose you without upsetting anybody with real money, we're fine with your worst pro-Rich People plots and plans!"

So spot on! I loathe the complacency of the Dems!! Here we are making calls, writing letters, signing petitions, attending meetings, protests and rallies, and WTF are they doing!! And BTW, thanks for not holding back on the fucks!

I couldn't have said it better. Even reasonable independant people that are souring on Apedo Trump and his new gestapo can't get excited about the Democratic party. Because they don't seem to stand for anything and can't grow the sack needed to stand up to Trump. By the way- it is time for Chuck Schumer to take a hike.

The core problem with the Democratic Party is that it refuses to see the GOP as existential threats to democracy, an authoritarian corrupt movement without scruple or honor. Imagine Democrats saying that Israel attacking Gaza is just a race to the bottom and they should instead take the high road. Some liberals hold that position but it’s hardly a mainstream Dem position.

Thanks for writing this, as Lee and King in particular made me want to scream, as it reflects to core problem with the Democratic Party right now.

You forgot Schmuck Schumer and Sir Hakeem, the Not-Quite-So-Brave as Sir Lancelot.

This is one somebody on Facebook did that sums up my High Opinion of Schumer perfectly:

This I did myself, or at least changed the subtitles on a bit from MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL!

Amen. The infuriating obsequiousness of democrats who don’t seem to have learned history - who have made some effort to gain positions of power, seemingly only for the purpose of wanting to be liked. Democracy dies with a shrug from the democrats in power.

The Democrats who have been in Congress for years, and the DNP, are doing their jobs representing their consitutents. Unfortunately, their constituents are not human people, they are corporations, aka, corporate citizens, who have the same rights as human people under the law. This is a foundational principle in the Citizens United decision.
