It’s ironic that TERFs are upholding the very patriarchal norms that they are allegedly trying to overthrow. Do they not see that patriarchy and white supremacy are two sides of the same coin?
I want to be a part of a feminism that works to uplift all of us. Otherwise, what is the fucking point?
Feminism without Intersectionality is misogyny, pure and simple. If you are not including all women, including those who are disabled, or sex workers, or elderly, or trans, or non-binary, or those any shade darker than marshmallow, you aren’t fighting for women. You are fighting for patriarchy. You are fighting for dehumanizing other women. You are fighting for those women to be victimized, fetishized, infantilized, etc. When the most marginalized get rights, everybody’s standing improves. So many people forget that if rights can be taken from one person or group, they can be taken from everybody.
A few years ago I was invited by two of my clients to attend their church here in Nashville. I’m an atheist; but I love the two people and I did attend, and it was a wonderful experience.
During the proceeding — which included sermons by two of the three ministers present, an instrumental by the house band, and a couple of Gospel songs by a stellar 80 year old soloist and the church's choir — I noticed a few pews back and to my right a tall and astonishingly attractive woman. After the service she came over to my friend and me, introduced herself, and thanked us for coming.
I told my friends in the band later that she was either the most stunning woman ever or arguably America's most beautiful trans woman. “She's both,” they said. She’d been a male usher there for years before disappearing for a few months, returning finally as a woman. The church members accepted her with love immediately.
If the church I’d attended while I was growing up had been anything like theirs, I’d be a much better person today.
Murphy is the archetypal woman hating on other women. I’d love to know the stats or even a guesstimate of how many cisgender women, straight or gay have had surgery to enhance their faces, breasts and butts. Don’t come crying that’s different. Nope.
Great piece! How amazing it would be to live in a world where we could have respectful, grownup discussions about trans people and their life choices without having to first defend their basic right to exist against TERFs and other bigots.

Also, I loved reading this. I learn something new every time I open your Substack. Thank you.

Love Laverne Cox, she is beautiful inside and out. Thanks for sharing this.
