It’s funny, I was having an internal debate just last night about how synergistic collaborative songcraft can be, and how PF typified that; considering the decline in their quality (imo) as they became Waters’ backing band (not to mention the mostly awful MLOR). Prior to finding their niche, so to speak, with DSOTM, that early stuff was wonderfully weird and inconsistent and demonstrated that, as artists, they were clearly willing to take chances, much to our lasting benefit if I may say.

I’m (almost) embarrassed to admit that I have never listened to this album. I thought for a minute that you were going to have Ummagumma or Atom Heart Mother, but you are always more interesting than that. Thanks!

I like those albums too!

I haven't heard that one, or even worse, even heard OF it. I guess for me the Pink Floyd sun rose and sat on "Dark Side". On a tie-in to PF, I every so often check out the local concert scene and was able to score a ticket to Alan Parsons in July in a 1500 seat theater only 30 miles from home. And I nearly fainted when I saw the price of approximately $80 plus the $13 (ripoff) courtesy fee. It's very shortly after my 74th birthday and I consider it money well spent for a "self spending" present!

Keep up the good work, Noah, and take care of those beautiful kitties :)

Noah. How did you know that Pink Floyd was my favorite band? By the way, my favorite album is Relics. If you listen to an old non-digitized version with headphones it will switch back and forth between your ears and seem very hypnotic and three-dimensional. I highly recommend it.

Given the context you'll have no trouble guessing where this essay (the most popular of the 150 or so I've published on substack) is headed. Still, if you have the time & curiosity, you might enjoy following its route to the end. https://johnsundman.substack.com/p/the-dark-side-of-the-hut-50-years?r=38b5x&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
