It makes me angry that we don’t have a health care system that people can rely on in when they are in life’s toughest situations. I feel like I missed out, as I didn’t know of Linda’s work until now. I sent what I could, but it burns me up that our very wealthy country can’t make healthcare care a priority. After the police caused this injury, she and her family should never have to worry about money again.
I am so sorry the world is losing an amazing woman and journalist.
Thank you for doing this, and for the tears. And for harking us back to George Floyd, killed in Minneapolis on our adult daughter's birthday (helps me remember the date.) Now the date has additional reason to not fade in the rear-view.
And for quoting Andrea Dworkin, who spoke in Minneapolis at our local library branch, on May 24, just before daughter's first birthday (1984). I shook her hand. (Dworkin's)
Dworkin was there to help press for the groundbreaking porn-as-violence-against-women ordinance, subsequently passed by the Minneapolis city council, then vetoed by Mayor Don Fraser, thus sidestepping what would have been a long and extended (needed?) tumult.
Yet the visibility Dworkin helped bring to the boys-will-be-boys issue of violence against women I think was permanent.
Thanks for all the reminders and just so much else. Sending a bit by venmo in response.
Not really. She lived on twitter up to the day she got shot by the MPD. After that it was more sporadic. She has a Substack that started after she got shot. But that too is sporadic. She is brilliant, empathetic, a journalist, an economist, a polyglot, a mom, a friend and a partner. She makes the world so much better for being in it.
Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. I followed Linda on Twitter and supported her on Patreon from 2017-2021. Thank you for this update and the information to contribute. She didn’t deserve this, she’s been fighting on the frontlines for us for so long.
Everything is horrible, indeed. How awful for Linda and her family, and I will not share my thoughts about the MPD. Donating and spreading the word. Thank you for sharing this, Noah, despite how heartbreaking and enraging it is.
I followed Linda on Twitter before her injury. She was a favorite, who taught me about the realities of life in our country. I remember her injury and the humor and courage she showed dealing with it. I remember she had organized support for young men who also had been blinded by police rubber bullets.
This news fills me with horror and terror. She was a photographer reporting on the protests when she was hit. I thought she lost so much not least her career when she lost her eye. Now I know she lost much more. This is ghastly and yet also a risk faced by any of us in future protests. I’m sending her money. Thank you for this information
I know Linda - or I suppose knew her, from Twitter. She told me about being blinded shortly after it happened. At some point thereafter, I responded to one of her many posts positing ways of effecting political change in a manner that rubbed her the wrong way. She got upset, told me off and blocked me - and probably long since forgotten about me. I always wished I had been able to explain I had an autistic moment and said my thought the wrong way. Anyway. I wish it wasn't like this. Sending what I can. :(
Noah, I’d like to mail a check to her at the mailbox number that’s on the bottom of her blog. Would that be OK? Thank you for publicizing this, I’m gobsmacked by her writing.
Hi Lauren. I honestly don't know if that would work? The digital info was all I had. I guess I'd be careful about trying to get money to her by other means?
No one should have to go bankrupt for medical care, especially palliative care. I am so sorry for the impending loss of your friend. May you both find peace.

thanks to everyone who donated; I really appreciate it and I know Linda and her people do as well.

What good friendships look like!
I will miss her so very much. For all that we tweeted and texted and talked, I never got to meet her in person. I will miss her something fierce.
Is there a source of her collected writings?

I hope someday, someone will pull her work together.
Done. It's not much but I can PayPal her what I can. Qualified immunity is really great for citizens, isn't it? 😐

Venmo insists that I put in the last four digits of LINDA‘s phone number.
Any help there? Thank you.
There should be an option to just skip that? Usually there is…
You can actually bypass that. As long as you have chosen @Linda-Tirado-3 you’re good.
Found it -- just have to keep going down and there is the option.
I am so old.....
Thank you. Sent.
