Loved this piece. It is like an x-ray into the integration of a creative writer to the reality of the writers market.

Another piece where I say, like after every new soup my spouse makes, “this is my favorite! “

This is a good piece.

Without trying to be too controversial, it occurs to me that professional politicians feel the same way (to some degree).

There's are lots of stories in which politicians are rewarded for saying what they really think (_The American President_) but, most of the time, they are in a position of trying to reveal their personality and opinions within the constraints of what the judges are looking for.

For example, that's part of the lesson of the Obama's flag pin controversy (he stopped wearing an American Flag lapel pin; it became a story, he decided to start wearing it again, even though it's foolish, just because it wasn't worth the fight*).

* Looking up a story at the time, it's remarkable how strange it feels in the current political climate https://www.politico.com/story/2007/10/the-political-mind-obama-denounces-flag-pin-patriotism-006502

"That is why Obama’s stated wish to share his vision of what will 'make this county great' is likely to fall flat: Many Americans already believe that they live in a great country, in the general, colloquial sense of that word."
