Thanks for the list. I've read a few of them. Generally vampires are not my thing. But if you haven't read them, I recommend the series about the Others by Anne Bishop. Best werewolves in fiction and some pretty good vampires, too. I generally don't like Bishop's other fantasies, but this series is top notch--and deals with serious issues of discrimination and prejudice in an really unusual way.
Starter is Written in Red. There are 5 in the main series and 3 others in the same world.
I love this list except for the exclusion of “My Favorite Thing is Monsters” by Emil Ferris. The story is sublime and the illustrations positively decadent. It is one of the greatest Graphic Novels of all time.
I think I agree with you on a lot of these. "Palimpsest" was a great story. Now I have to go check dates and think things over. "Mislaid" by Nell Zink should be on here if nothing else of hers makes it.
I was scrolling along, loving how many of these titles I have read, especially Okorafor, Butler and Jemisin... And *boom* a regency romance that I haven't read at #2? On it.
I think it's #3! But yeah, it's one of my favorite romances, and little known...Cecelia Grant was I think gaining a reputation, but she seems to have stopped writing after her initial three book series, unfortunately.
Yes, #3! I have already checked the first one in the series out from the library. Courtney Milan is one of my fav romance authors. You might like Ann Leckie's _Translation State_ (SF).
I liked Leckie's Ancillary series and read another book or two but I don't think I've read Translation State...I've read some Milan books, and like them okay, but haven't found one that's a favorite yet...
I basically read almost exclusively short stories until I have read every collection available I'm interested in and then I look for a novel. By a short story author. Lol
I guess I can do something on short stories. It's embarrassing how many drafts I have but if I just have to pick a number and then that many stories and why they're worthwhile I could finish that draft. I'm pretty sure.
I should have included a short story collection or two here, and I've read at least a few, but...like I like Lina Ma's collection, but like Severance better I think...
"And Then I Woke Up" by Malcolm Devlin was also a pretty amazing take on the zombie apocalypse trope, with a really interesting twist. He had a collection come out too but you are just doing novels, right?
Can I add The Transit of Venus by Shirley Hazzard. Love the list & a nonfiction list would also be fun- thanks!

I enjoy these lists. I want to add my pitch for "Five Decembers" an outstanding crime/police procedural by James Kestrel.
God I want to read All these books! Thanks for reigniting something in me — I haven't read just to read in a long time.

I haven't read it! I will look out for it...
Thank you. And yes please, a nonfiction list.

I'm not familiar with her!
Oooh I think you might enjoy her. I like most of her stuff but Mislaid was excellent.
What a fun and exciting list! So many titles I missed. Thank you.

A Gentleman Undone was fantastic. Thanks so much! It is very unfortunate she didn't continue writing.
oh I’m glad you liked it!

Short story collection and/or anthology list?
I don’t read enough of them!

Hmm. I think I do too, but I'm trying to remember if they're the one that just had another collection come out.
