Totally concur regarding early Sam Raimi's palpable joy in movie-making. Two of my favorite cornball movies are Army of Darkness and Darkman, Raimi classics. I tried to watch Evil Dead many years ago, and gave up after six or seven lines of dialogue because it was so agonizingly stilted. I shall now try again and venture past that point, to where the actors evidently find their calling as chewers of scenery and each other. Thanks for resurrecting that piece!
