Everything is very complicated, therefore we shouldn't simply throw these war criminals in jail (sarcasm). It sounds as if ZDT is partly "brain porn" like Good Will Hunting or A Brilliant Mind or the House series, wherein the viewer can pretend to imagine what it's like to be very intelligent (or "wicked smaht" as we say here in RI) without actually thinking too hard.

I can see how the film tries to have it both ways on torture. It spends most of its time with the main detainee just beating the shit out of him. It’s brutal. I can’t remember if they get any useful information out of him but I agree that the film isn’t just showing you all of it in order to show how wrong it is. It’s trying to be in the morally grey area.

But then they stop for once and just feed him a nice meal out in the sun and speak to him like a human for once. Thats when they get the key intel that leads to Bin Laden. What I hate then is they don’t discuss whether to capture or kill him. It’s just straight kill, with no hint at the morality or legality of that action.
