Excellent, well-written, and thought-provoking.

I’ve never been in a Cheesecake Factory. Plenty of IHOPS though. Now there’s a chain restaurant for the masses! The ones near me closed awhile back when the company went bankrupt (was that private equity? They kill so many good things. (RIP Joann’s Fabric)).Are there any left in other places? I would go for nostalgia at this point.

Great explanation of “Class” - those who have it, don't have to proclaim it. All others are envious, petty, childish and low-class!

Seems like they're substituting elitist for uppity.

Yesterday I saw that JK Rowling statement about trans supporters being elitist.

It was so weird I was sure I didn't understand that word.

I wandered off to Merriam-Webster's site.

All the definitions are wonderfully circular.

An elitist is one who does elitist things.

I'm glad you got me off the merry-go-round.

Thanks for the excellent piece and also for the link to Mitchell, which I am looking forward to reading.

My take on it was they wanted to avoid the comparison to dictator Saddam and his tackiness, so made it about something trivial instead, the cheesecake factory. Maybe the reference was also to the cheescake factory's financial troubles and legal (SEC) troubles, like 47 et. al.

I don't think there are any Cheesecake Factories in Canada- at least, there are none in my hometown. So I'm not qualified to compare it to the White House.
