Just gonna comment again to say, thank you for this. The connections you make seem so obvious, but I don’t see others making them.

I have successfully NOT left this comment on every Horrible post because I know it’s tedious, but please know that you shine a light on so many things that go unnoticed by others, I am here for it and I thank you.

In the Canadian Parliament, if the governing party does not have majority control of the House of Commons and loses a vote of confidence, a new election is automatically called.

One wishes the American House and Senate worked similarly.

The RNC picks candidates who seat-warm for fascists. The DNC picks candidates who seat-warm for banks and corporations, with a few notable exceptions. Nowhere in this are the people actually represented.

Ds want in general greater regulation for banks and higher taxes on billionaires, as well as higher taxes on capital gains and more financial regulation. Biden ramped up antitrust enforcement and support for unions; it’s a big part of the reason so many of the wealthy embraced trumpism.

The idea that somehow the fascists are opposed to banks and the wealthy can be refuted by just looking at Trump’s cabinet. Ds have various problems, but the idea that htey somehow are for the elite vs. the populist fascists is just not true.

There’s still a huge neo-liberal component in the Democratic party; otherwise Elizabeth Warren would have been appointed to head the CFPB—a department she created—under Obama. But she was flat-out refused by Wall St. because they knew she’d be too tough on them. In the end, it fired her up to run for Senator—for which I am grateful—but the Democrats don’t want populists. They want status quo, which means “don’t annoy the big donors too much.” Like I said, there are notable exceptions—AOC, Warren, Swallwell, and Raskin for example—but centrism and incrementalism in general is killing the party.

sure, there’s tensions in the D party. but Elizabeth Warren got the CFPB created, and Trump destroyed it. this is a pretty stark contrast!

and again, Biden, the literal president, went all in on antitrust and fighting for labor. no one cared and he got no credit. doesn’t exactly lead Ds to feel like they should push against billionaires, unfortunately.

Fair enough, but does all of this outweigh the feckless proceduralism (if that’s a word) of the Dems? None of this really addressed the fact that cost of living is higher than stagnant wages. Unions are only one component of the labor market, and people were, and still are, not being able to afford basic living costs. I read somewhere that people are going into debt on credit cards to buy food! Even ACA is too expensive for most people, and that was supposed to be a boon to working class Americans. The average cost of an ACA health insurance policy for a single person is still $500/mo. How are people supposed to afford that when rent takes up half a paycheck and you still have to eat, never mind paying back student loans? Look, there is no doubt Biden was far better than Trump 1.0. The question is, better for whom? The problem is that the Dems have a lack of a bold vision that makes them want to vote for Democrats. The DNC keeps wanting us to vote “blue no matter who”, but what are they getting in return, other than keeping fascism at bay? Is that enough?

The ACA only works as well as any given State allows it to work. In California, I was able to get ACA for free while unemployed - something not offered in Republican-controlled States. I'm the first to want a Bernie or Elizabeth Warren or AOC in charge over the centrist establishment of Dems, but we can't trade actual rights and freedoms and people being shipped to El Salvador prisons cuz the wealth gap and monied interests being too embedded in politics. Democrats need a sane opposing party, and every time we punish Dems by giving control back to Republicans no matter how looney tunes they become, we lose yet more ground with having that. In many ways, the voting public has dug this deep-ass grave for themselves and we need to dig ourselves back out, and Step 1 is to stop the reactionary, reflexive need to stick it to a party that never goes far enough by constantly handing power back to the party that always goes way too far to the point of active, immediate harm.

I torture myself with fantasies of Warren having won the primary and general elections in 2020. It's self-harm at its dorkiest.

I'm glad you are highlighting that this bill is so bad the people who voted for it think it's bad. Fascist gonna fash but those that are trying to fight fascism by giving them enough rope to hang them selves are complicit in the damage that is being done. We all need to call out their actions and amplify them so that all their fascist tactics get drowned out by our noise. It worked for them, now let's make it work for us. Keep up the good work

:: “You have one job. To. Read. The. Fucking. Bill,” Rep. Eric Swalwell told Greene on twitter. “Read the f**king bill instead of clapping for it like a performing monkey,” Rep. Marc Pocan added. ::

Near the end of Season 3 of JUSTIFIED, Dickie Bennett is telling Raylan Givens he read this article about how much pain a body can endure, or something, and Raylan (who's hanging upside down and about to have the shit beat out of him by that asshole Dickie) responds, "Let's go back to the part where you can READ...."

Marjorie Taylor Greene is the female gym bod Dickie Bennett, and I hope Jasmine Crockett goes all Raylan Givens on her crooked ass.
