Interesting piece on CONFESSIONS OF A JUSTIFIED SINNER—it sort of reminds me of a sub-theme in Eric Flint's, David Freer's and Mercedes Lackey's book THIS ROUGH MAGIC where a monk describes the more antiheroic of the main heroes as "practicing a good that has more harm in it than evil".
Oh, Jeeze, you've hit the nail on the head with the poem about pills. Morning, 2 bottles of eye drops, skin cream for the tinea, 8 pills in the morning, and the COPD inhaler. Evening, 7 pills, 3 eye drops, and skin cream. The sad part of the entire thing is that most of the medicine is for marginal problems, which I could probably skip.
I complained once to my dear departed dad about getting old (I'm now 72). He smiled and said, "Son, you got two choices: you get old or you die. Choose wisely." He was a good man, I miss him every day!
Keep up the good work, I truly do enjoy the columns and poems :)
I haven't seen MICKEY 17 yet, but from the trailer it looks like a dark comedy, closer to PARASITE than SNOWPIERCER.
Maybe Bong wanted to have a hopeful ending for a change? I don't consider the end of SNOWPIERCER hopeful, given they walk off into a frozen wasteland....
