When I read about Riley's teen emotions in INSIDE OUT 2, I was saying to myself, "Where's Lust or Attraction or Desire?" Because that's something puberty absolutely brings out....
One of the reasons kids' emotions are so awkward during adolescence is because their hormones are doing the Bunny Hop inside them, and they're torn between societal strictures (especially if they're girls) and what their body suddenly wants. Because they don't yet know how to handle that there's a lot of attraction/revulsion going on in their relationship with boys, because while they'd like to give in to their desires they know they'd be ostracized if they did so because their parents, teachers, and churches have told them that over and over and over.
Meanwhile, boys are getting really screwed-up mixed messages—you're not supposed to "get serious" with a woman until you're financially stable, but you're "Not! A! Man!" if you haven't been laid yet! I was no more immune that that conditioning than any other straight, or mostly-straight, boy, but that always seemed really wrong to me—one might even call it..."Hypocritical".
Well, the CNN HIT MAN piece was posted on June 7th and the "Double Psycho Misogyny" piece on here was posted on June 11th, so I guess you wrote the CNN piece first, and that's an earlier draft of a later discussion on film noir and misogyny?
on, okay, you're talking about the double psycho misogyny piece.
I think I wrote the psycho piece first? after seeing double indemnity. then I wrote Hit Man after seeing Hit Man. I wouldn't say the psycho piece is an early draft...just, both are talking in part about double indemnity and noir and I'm the same person writing about those things!
The Christian Science article was really interesting, thanks.
Pretty good poetry.
Nice.
Love the line “my head is filled with earth.” I can relate. Other people can read Finnegan’s Wake. I’m confused enough already.

I have looked at my kindle library and simply decided that I am going to live to 130.
Noah, is this an early draft of your CNN piece on HIT MAN? Because they both share a lot of commonality....
Is which an early draft...?
Your CNN piece on HIT MAN—https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/07/opinions/hit-man-glen-powell-femme-fatale-double-indemnity-berlatsky
right, but which piece are you talking about as the early draft? You're posting on the weekly roundup!

Guess I just answered my own question....
