I agree with the basic point. But those supporting Trump are an odd coalition and it might be harder for another leader to hold it together. Infighting would be a short term disaster but possibly lead to better outcomes. I think Trump dying would lead to fascism that was more orderly just in that no one else in charge would be as chaotic as Trump, but less orderly in that there might actually be less uniform agreement on policy among Republicans. It won't be clear till the cards are down if any possible Trump replacement can bring out the voters in the way Trump brought them out. Of course the election rigging may be so far gone that doesn't matter, but there is a large coalition right now that identifies with Trump the man, if he's gone things will at least get bumpy. If I were writing the novel, we'd get a power struggle between Don Jr, Ivanka and Vance for the future of the party. I suspect Don Jr is actually the one most likely to hold the whole coalition together, but that's just a guess.

I do agree with you. However, Vance is despised by all, so don’t you think that is something we have going for us once Trump does kick the bucket? And when I say all, I mean the general population.

not really. VP’s are always despised pretty much; when they become the head of the party, partisanship kicks in and their partisans love them. also vance would probably get a honeymoon as people hoped he’d be better than trump.

Those are good points. I suppose we’ll just have to see how it all plays out once it does happen…

Noah, this article is pure gold! At this point, I think we’d need the USA to be transformed on a cultural and spiritual level if we ever want to realize the ideals that this country was founded on. It would require centering the concerns of Native people (whose lands were forcibly stolen) and reparations for people of African descent. Short of these kinds of reformers, we’ll be back here in the next century. Efforts to put the USA on a better track will be a lifelong endeavor. It will be extremely difficult to realize given our nation’s factory settings, but no less worth it.
