I like this assessment. You mentioned his agenda--- i think that may be part of the problem - he doesn't have one other than to make himself look strong and wealthy. Sure, the GOP has a platform, sure, if he really is a Russian puppet there's an agenda there, sure, the Heritage Foundation has Project 2015, and sure, Musk now has more government contracts. But what does Trump want?
There is no end game - he has no plan. Never did. We all need to be Captain Willard rising, realizing our patriotism means nothing to this man and we need to embrace some pretty dark methods to avoid becoming (I swear I didn't plan this...) Sergeant Elias -- or any of the fools Trump has already left in his wake.
I really believe that candidates should be fully checked by psychiatrists for any obvious mental health disorders, including blunt stupidity, before they are allowed to run for office. Under that criteria Trump, Musk, Kennedy et al. would have been disqualified at the outset.
I don’t think discriminating against people with mental illness is the way to go. Lots of ppl with mental illness are not fascists or shudders and would be perfectly qualified to serve.
Trump and co have moral failings. That’s the problem, and it’s not something psychiatrists can test for.
I'd settle for making sure they can pass the citizenship test. Trump would have failed that. While there should not be exclusions for illnesses, understanding the basics of the separation of powers and why someone would choose public service or a military career over the corporate world should be the bare minimum.
What I still can’t go over four years after the fact is how he was able to get away with January 6 with no legal repercussions, come back and be president, and effectively gut our major institutions as we know them.
It’s so clear that there is no “Deep State” doing anything or keeping our institutions afloat. Just people in power who bit by bit made consequential mistakes that led us to the current chaos.
I’m convinced that true democracy is something that has to be built from the bottom up by us and not these leaders. Because what we’re being subjected to now is utterly pathetic. We deserve better, and that’s what keeps me going.
I'm sure the stopping of vaccine research includes Bird Flu. So when a particularly virulent of human to human form finally emerges, we can all hope he will become First Victim (while the rest of us wear masks). Wouldn't it be interesting if the Rapture actually meant the killing off of everyone who won't wear masks when a deadly form of person to person virus emerges that is actually STOPPED by masks?
Just a quick reminder that about 20% of the 1.2M Covid deaths were of people ages 30-65.
That's just deaths. It doesn't include hospitalizations or those now disabled by "long Covid".
Let people get the damn shots.

I seemed to have confused mental health with morality for some reason. No, I have a mental illness and wouldn’t want to be discriminated against.

New subscriber here. This is a phenomenal essay!
