Your writing about things other than politics is just as critical. I get overwhelmed by all the bad news and want to crawl into a hole (or to my work - same thing). I'm glad I peeked out of said hole and found this and some happy feelings.
When you do passionless work which brings you no joy, that’s when you’re working for the man.
Finding your joy and sharing it with others in order to spread joy is about the most un-screwing-each other-over-ish thing I can think of, and I am here for it
In Buffalo, happily watching an ad hoc trad jazz/swing band articulating the working class plight right now... art Is essential to community and resistance. We miss ArtVoice and The Public free weeklies here. Our local nonprofit investigative newsroom is taking up the slack in holding officials accountable - www.investigativepost.org (check out the ICE nightmare of the week) but they can't replicate the nitty gritty of arts reporting.
"As you’ll quickly figure out if you give it a listen, the song is not really about the mailman."
Just like the song "Laundromat Blues" by The 5 Royales is, on the surface, about how the singer's girlfriend has "the best washing machine in town...", but it can be interpreted as being about something else.
