💯 Agree with you. He is more of the same, except for his clever social media posts. We need someone that will argue for true change which includes taking down corporate America. He is not up to the task.
Agreed. He’s my governor and I’m very disappointed in him. He is another hand-picked DNC darling who goes over well with the consultants but isn’t what the Democratic party really needs. And I think JB Pritzker is more of the same. They both talk tough, but I don’t see any real substantive change with either of them; mostly just maintaining the status quo which is not working for the vast majority of Americans. My vote is going to AOC in the primaries and I would love to see her team up with Elizabeth Warren as her running mate. Even if Harris runs again, I don’t think she’s the right person, either. Incrementalism in social safety net policy isn’t going to cut it.
Pritzker’s great, imo. very, very different from newsom, especially on trans rights. Illinois is a haven for trans people right now, and for abortion rights, and he’s a big part of the reason why.
I’ll take your word for it, but I worry about his billionaire status. I still don’t know why all the blue state governors aren’t pulling the trigger on creating an escrow account to withhold federal taxes. Seems like such a brilliant form of leverage against Trump’s regime.
My vote is going to AoC as well, and her plus Warren would be a great ticket.
Though honesty dictates I admit any candidate who promised to throw Third Way into the dumpster where they belong (and actually made moves in that direction) would get my interest at least.
Also, anyone who openly talked about throwing Schumer's quisling ass into the dumpster along with third way would get my interest as well.
Mark Alan Stamaty used to do a comic during the Reagan and George I regimes, "Washingtoon"*, which was largely a humorous soap opera regarding a failed game show host turned Right Wing politician, Bob Forehead. Bob belonged to something called "The Conservative JFK Look-Alike Coalition", and often feuded with fellow Right Wing JFK look-alive Daniel Duck (no, to begin with we didn't know Dan Quayle was dumb as a box of rocks!).
That's what Gavin Newsom reminds me of—yet another member of The Conservative JFK Look-Alike Coalition.
____
* "Washingtoon" also introduced "Giggle Wiggle", a lampoon of the Laffer Curve that Reagan used to justify Trickle-Down Economics.
Ever since the online Bernie Bros said they would not vote for Hillary, I’ve wondered how much of the leftest vs liberal fight on social media is real and how much is a foreign psy-op. Certainly there are earnest Americans involved involved in these online fights, but sowing division and getting natural allies to fight is what foreign intelligence operations do.
I don’t think it’s a foreign op. there are some real divisions on the left.
otoh, it’s not like Ds are having trouble winning elections right now. I think that these divisions can be overemphasized in the sense that most people who vote and determine elections aren’t engaged enough to be involved in these debates, and probably barely realizes that Clinton/Sanders is a fault line for some people.
"Vote Blue No Matter Who" is why I no longer identify as a Democrat—especially when it comes to The Qween of NeoLib Evil, $Hillary Rodham Clinton!
You want my vote? Earn it—convince me you're not Hillary, or Schmuck Schumer, or Notorious P-Lousy, or Sir Hakeem, the Quite-So-Brave as Sir Lancelot, but are more like Bernie Sanders and AOC.
The big fear I have in this context is the news media in general deciding that he's the candidate ahead of time. They're already going to be even more hostile to Democrats than they were in 24, and I can see some of the more lucid and savvy shit burgers in Trump's orbit order Brendan carr (or his replacement) to fuck with things such that newsome is presented as the democratic nominee as a fiat accompli.
On the flip side, though, if there's one thing you can count on besides death and taxes it's shitty white dudes having skeletons in their closet, and those kinds of things tend to come out in primaries.
And as I'm typing this it occurs to me that its entirely possible he (and other potential candidates) are in the Epstein files and whoever ends up managing Trump's re-election campaign is holding onto that information as either blackmail or a political silver bullet.
I don’t think there’s any reason to believe that trump’s savvy enough to try to manipulate the media in that way. the fcc just gave talarico a huge boost in the primary in texas, which I very much doubt was their intention.

I’d prefer aoc, but if Pritzker won he would be the most progressive president we’ve ever had, pretty much. https://www.everythingishorrible.net/p/the-left-should-consider-pritzker

“Shitcan Schumer” does have a nice ring to it as a campaign slogan. I'm just saying.
Newsom's main advantage is that he looks more like a stereotypical "politician" than the others- an image that may linger in some voter's minds..

He’s an ally of convenience. If he helps with something you feel in important, great. But his actions are all self-serving. Dems can do better.
As a longtime California resident, I agree with you. Now do Josh Shapiro.

Trump? No. Miller? Maybe.
