It’s wild that as someone who didn’t want the old white man in the 2020 primary I’ve found myself consistently defending Biden’s record (obvious Gaza caveat) and the idea that his age should be a big deal. I’m unaware of anything besides the debate that would suggest it’s a real issue. And even then he’s never been a good public speaker and has a stutter. So I don’t even think the debate should be all that big of a deal. Just never thought it would come to this but I’m happy I was wrong about Biden.

Unfortunately a media freak out and Democratic elite cowardice was foreseeable and I’m not happy we have to combat this yet again after their disastrous 2016 effort.

These are good points but let’s remember to follow the money. Biden loves unions and green energy. He promises to tax the rich. He accomplished many of his policies in his first term. Antiunion, pro-petroleum, wealthy people and politicians who need their money don’t want him to continue to implement those policies. If they really thought he would be an incompetent second term prez or was going to lose, they’d leave him alone. Instead, they want Dems disheartened and in disarray, so Biden is attacked and Trump gets a pass. I’m in the “Dems better unite and start attacking” camp because exposing Trump may not dissuade MAGA voters but it will sure stimulate pro-Dem and anti-fascist folks.

That—is an excellent point, DrBDH.

excellent and clarifying, thank you, Noah.

"I’m not saying that everyone criticizing Biden is in bad faith" I am. All this foolishness is a huge waste of time and resources. Biden is the nominee and that's not going to change.

No, they weren't. I was one of them, and even though I have come around since then . I was not arguing in bad faith. It genuinely came from a place of concern after I saw what I saw in the debates, and frankly some other moments Before that. But now that the dust has settled, I am Unambiguously on team Biden/Harris.

Then you were getting ready to cut off your nose to spite your face, because there was no way replacing the incumbent Joe Biden wouldn't be a fiasco, especially if he didn't want to go (as he doesn't).

I read the whole thread, including your comments.

I'm glad you've changed your mind, but there are so Gods-Damned many Freakouts going on I'm out of patience with them....

It's not very helpful to dump on someone who says they've changed their mind and are on your side! If people agree with you, let them agree with you!

Neither are fair-weather friends, who will flip-flop the next time Biden stutters, or misspeaks, or some celebrity tells them to.

I said I was glad he changed her mind.... It's right there, I'm looking at it. Besides, given his eagerness to cut ME off at the kneecaps? I think he can take care of himself....

EDITED b/c I got the gender wrong—and THAT I am sincerely sorry for.

Also it's because Trump is somewhat unreportable. Every single thing he says is either so wacky, zany, off-the-wall utterly nonsensical that reporting on it is like trying to interview a homeless guy during a MH crisis: what do you even report?

The Atlantic did a good job digging into this phenomenon.

Damn, I think you are right. I guess Kamala dreaming is a waste of time.

Because Kamala Harris JUST the person to get Middle America on-side—a Hindu/Caribbean female ex-prosecutor!

I know you're thinking you'll pick up the minority vote, but that whole "ex-prosecutor" part doesn't work in her favor there.

I think she'd be fine. I think it's a bad idea for the Ds to only field white men or decide that no one else can lead the party.

Transitioning would just be tricky though. and of course it's up to biden, who doesn't seem interested in stepping down...

And there's the rub—Joe Biden willingly stepping down and appointing a successor, and a successor the rest of the Democratic Party can support.

It's less that I think Kamala Harris isn't a good candidate than I don't think she's a good candidate NOW, with an incumbent unwilling to step down and a party engaging in its best circular firing squad behavior. If Biden no longer felt up to the challenges of the office and stepped aside for her after securing the nomination? Then, yes, I think she could win—but I still think BIDEN can win, too, no matter what the polls say!

Like I said when I quoted Garth Marenghi? "They're all cowards!"

Regarding anti-Biden Democrats? I feel like Garth Marenghi talking about writers who use subtext: "They're all cowards!"

President Biden has spoken the United Nations, to NATO, and to crowds where he's completely coherent and...honestly, a lot less "Goofy Uncle Joe" than we was when he was Obama's VP! Has everybody forgotten that he used to malaprop so regularly that "Bidenisms" were a kind of running gag among the media and Washington insiders? Honestly, his verbal slip-ups (two, and one he corrected right away!) at NATO seem more like the Biden we all know and used to chuckle over—so why's everybody panicking and/or slavering now?

I just wish the MSM would focus their venom on a DESERVING target like Donald Trump, who speaks with both a forked tongue and utterly incoherently. But—he's the Candidate of The Entitled Straight White Male, so I guess like other endangered species they feel he somehow needs protection.... 🤦‍♂️
