I find it pathetic that the likes of Ms. Rachel and Macklemore have to be the ones putting their careers on the line because so many of their fellow elites are either giant cowards or giant racist assholes. But good on them for doing what so many won't.

It equals complicity and indifference. Private views are irrelevant in the face of inertness. Meaning well is inconsequential if we do nothing (or, worse, do harm) when it counts. If you are willing to accept the demands of people you are choosing a side. You point out, and rightly so, that Sheeran’s statement of protecting children is hollow if he’s not protecting all children.
On top of that, if Macklemore is a friend he should have stood up for his friend, or at least had a discussion with all involved. The other artists leaving shows that his decision was not unanimous.
