I’m watching the final season of “The Boys” right now and boy, do they have Trump’s and the Heritage Foundation’s number, not to mention the whole right-wing propaganda machine. I’m betting it’s no coincidence the company that created the supes is called “Vought” (Russel Vought, anyone?), with the supes being a metaphor for Aryan Nazi philosophy.
I didn’t realize there was a spin-off, so thanks for calling it out. Will check it out.
The show is a lot better than the comics, imo. The comics are just kind of gross out humor about superheroes; the series is much more ambitious in character development and in critiquing fascism/capitalism.
Yeah, as violent as that show is, it’s cartoony violence (albeit graphic) so the gross-out factor is a bit lessened. And may I say, Antony Starr, who plays Homelander, is brilliant. I ran across him in a show called “Banshee” which he’s also terrific in. Crazy plot, but I’m willing to suspend my disbelief.

I think it is a coincidence! Vought’s in th comic series, I’m pretty sure; that was released a long time before Russell became a national figure.
Huh. Well, what do I know. I didn’t even realize this was a comic series before the TV show. (Clearly I am not plugged into that sub-culture.)
yes; it's a Garth Ennis series.
