This is spot on. I grew up in a deeply racist rural area. My folks were active in the civil rights movement but I went to school with children of the KKK. We lived in completely different narratives-not different realities, because facts are facts.
The fascist, white nationalist cohort didn’t ever go away. They’re present in every decade of US history. You just have to pay attention. Maybe social media brought some of the virulence into the feeds of people who previously overlooked it. The US has been spoiling for this fight against democracy a long time.
I think Stancil would be right to say that the internet/social media has made it easier to propagate fascist bullshit. I'm sure it took a day or two for Sumner's caning to reach people and for the bullshit version of the white supremacists to take hold. Whereas today it would take merely minutes.
But the opposite is also true. It's never been easier to spread facts. It's never been easier to hear someone say Charles Sumner was a badass and to take 10 minutes to find out more info about him (It's a tragedy that people like Sumner and Thaddeus Stevens are less celebrated in this country than fucking Robert E. Lee) I think we're just not as good as we need to be at spreading the truth's narrative and, to quote David Lynch, fixing people's hearts.
it certainly took some time for news of the caning to spread…but there was instant support from southerners on the scene (some of whom prevented allies from aiding sumner and stopping the beating.)
I’ve lived in the USA, on and off, since San Antonio then Montgomery as a school-child in the 1970s; then as a working adult in LA, Austin, and Omaha in the 1990s. I’ve visited many places, many times, during and afterwards.
One comment I made, as a school-child, way back when, to my American friends, was: “just wait until the fuck-wits realise they’re in the majority” 🤯
Today Republicans brag that they are the party of Lincoln and democrats are the party of the KKK. But that believe is based on past history. They reject the fact that over time the parties switched their idioligy. That transformation culminated when LBJ, a democrat, signed the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act But tryingto reason with MAGA Iis a useless endeavor. They are void of logic and reasoning.
Not to detract from your fine work here and the many thought provoking points you made. However, the Election Truth Alliance has uncovered compelling anomalies in voting in Pennsylvania and they have a trusted globally renowned election integrity expert who has recently confirmed those suspicious patterns. To say it's completely fabricated and delusional, as you *seem* to imply (evidence less is what you specifically said) is slightly disingenuous.
There is no hard evidence but there are growing concerns and numerous FOIA requests by ETA as well as investigative journalists. Is there concrete evidence of "election fraud?" *Not yet.* I wouldn't definitively say that it's not possible.
There are also technological anomalies involving a specific company who certified machines and a very thorough explanation of how systems could have been exploited by the likes of Musk and his Starlink system has been making the rounds.
Every accusation is also a projection. Trump continues even to this day to make a point of insisting on the Big Lie. How better to learn from his mistakes in 2020 and make sure his win was assured in 2024. Stranger things are literally happening every single day. Nothing, especially gaming systems, is beneath these people.
I have numerous links beyond a couple of crackpots riffing on the idea that the election was rigged if you're curious but I urge you to at least check out electiontruthslliance.org before you make up your mind for certain. It's far enough from vague conspiracy theory to be worth investigating just a little bit. If you aren't then convinced, then you can be as dismissive as you'd like but it doesn't seem like you to not entertain it at all.
I'll read the post, I swear. However, I'd say that it was fascism that led the US (and many other countries) to fascism. Next comment after I read more than the title 😇

IMO: that’s what’s happened 🤔
