The disfigured man has taken off his hat and is gazing at the imperfection in Mt. Fuji with a seemingly happy look on his face. He apparently sees himself reflected there.
The side eruption and disfiguration of Mt. Fuji reminds me of the same result of the Mt. St. Helens explosion in the 1980s. Its cauldron has also already started to come back, as has vegetation.
Such a shame that you didn't have someone proofread your otherwise interesting article. Twice the French artist's name is spelled "Toulouse-LauRtrec" with that misplaced, extraneous "r" in the middle, and one with the "r" and the "t" reversed for "Toulouse-Laurtec."
I understand. I've been editing (and writing and proofreading and publishing through Pisgah Press --pisgahpress.com) for many years now, and what I've learned is never to rely on my own eyes. Unless it's just a comment in a posting, I send it to friends to review. I also have been the editor of a monthly Black newsmagazine in western NC, The Urban News (theurbannews.com), for 18 or 19 years, and my dream is STILL to put out an entire 36-page edition without a single typo. And it's still a dream . . .
Yours is a very interesting newsletter, however.
One thing I was curious about: what is that pinkish object in the middle of the table at the Moulin Rouge? It looks like a ham or a humongous fist or something surreal, and I couldn't figure it out.
I'm not sure...and not sure I'm seeing what you are. If I'm looking at the right thing, I think it's part of the costume of one of the people at the table...?

alas, I can’t afford proofreading! that’s what you get with a self published newsletter. Thanks for the corrections!

I just figured it out! It's the red hair of the woman at the table with her back to the viewer. A sort of ornate updo.
As they say, "doh!"
aha! I wondered if that was it; should have said.
