The historical Greeks were not as racially pure as Musk seems to believe. With the free-spreading genes of all nations involved in what was then the center of the world, Helen of Troy could have been many things, but she was likely never "white" in the current racial sense of the term.
What are the odds that Musk ever read The Odyssey? Maybe he played a video game based loosely on it. The only reason his opinion merits attention is his wealth. Ignorance and wealth are not mutually exclusive.
It's insane to me that anyone with the ability to take a look at the entire history of film and television can say with a straight face that anything resembling balance and equal representation has been not just achieved, but surpassed to the point where now we've moved it to marginalizing white actors. It's offensive to me that so many are willing to accept that any casting decision that puts an actor who isn't white (as Musk and his brethren define white) in a role where a white actor could feasibly portray the character gets attacked for "stealing" the role. As a white woman it's also fascinating to me to watch a bunch of white men who spend significant portions of time devoted to denigrating the choices (and appearance!) of the majority of white women somehow believe it's not just hypocritical but somehow honorable of them to attack the casting of this actor in this role, like it's a favor from them to us. When we all know exactly how much agency Musk would like us to have. Let's be real here, if this film gives any agency at all to the character of Helen, we all know Musk would hate that just as much. It might not trigger him to the point he's at now, but only because it would be lost in the numberless misogynistic rants he posts constantly.
I'm so tired of the media going along with this idea that there was ever a point where we got "too woke" and needed to come back to center. I've been alive and paying attention this entire time and it didn't happen. Not anywhere fucking close. That we've allowed bigots and thin-skinned smoothbrained entitled assholes to push us back to live out their revanchist fantasies writ large is obscene. That this hissy fit from the biggest welfare recipient on the planet is taking press away from the fact that the VOTING RIGHTS ACT was dismantled is obscene. I don't even go to movies anymore because of precisely this disproportionate level of discourse around entertainment. When the disenfranchised (or never franchised) complain about shit like this they get told to relax, to calm down, it's not real life, it's just a movie.
And how many times does The Atlantic have to demonstrate they are not operating in good faith before we stop promoting their most recent pile of bullshit thereby sending them more engagement? Please stop helping them. They have been trash AT LEAST since Goldberg (sp?) became editor, if not before. Without hatereaders sending folks their way, perhaps they'd have folded by now. It's not an accident they keep publishing these types of things. It's working.

Absolutely.
