I really enjoyed reading this. I haven’t read Hopkins since university; he’s seriously undervalued and much more accessible than many people think. I didn’t know about his life until this essay, and appreciate having that framework for considering his work. Thanks.

Hopkins is rated very highly by people who care about poetry I think—but (for better or worse) that’s not a lot of people!
