Does the movie really turn on the fact that "poor Oliver" is a bisexual manipulator out to scheme his way into the English Upper Crust? That bothers me, somehow—maybe because thanks to Donald Trump and Elon Musk (both scions of inherited wealth who pretend to be populists!) I'm on a major "FUCK THE SUPERRICH!" tear right now, and would be more inclined to side with a scholarship child of no means over a decadent family of many many means....
I'll admit, your review has intrigued me enough to try seeing this movie, now, as I thought from the ads the story went the other way—poor boy brought into a wealthy family for the summer is torn apart by their decadent corruption.
Not a single mention of Brideshead Revisited.
I've never read it! Waugh is mentioned in the movie though.
Huh.

And I reiterate—Huh.
Whew! Well that just saved me 2 hours of my life and $20.
