Dog and cat, imitating throw pillows.

Hello again! Eagle eyed readers may have noticed I did not do a Star Trek TOS recap post this week; I did another Star Trek thing and figured that was maybe enough? But the recaps will continue this coming week with “The Doomsday Machine”, which is a solid episode. Also! Got a post coming on what we should remember about William Hurt, maybe a thing on Jason Aldean’s authenticity…and who knows what else?

But that is the week to come. Below is what I wrote in the week that was.

If You Read One Thing By Me This Week, Read:

There isn’t a crisis of masculinity. Masculinity is the crisis. (EIH)

Politics

The GOP liked the hate DeSantis is selling; they just don’t like him. (Public Notice)

The GOP defends slavery in the name of meritocracy. (Independent)

The document charges show how completely Trump has hijacked the GOP. (Independent)

Maybe Biden’s approval is bad because everything is horrible. (EIH)

Criticism

The comedy Twins makes the case for dumping auteur theory. (EIH)

Star Trek’s Strange New Worlds still struggles to give the subaltern a voice. (EIH)

Talk to Me is an effective character driven horror film. (Chicago Reader)

14 underrated albums, from Bangles to Webern. (EIH)

Poetry

A poem about licensing. (Five Fleas)

The fake ID says I am older
but not wiser.

A poem about our good dog. (Versification)

Our dog
Runs
Like a throw pillow.
