While I wish she was farther left on a variety of issues, I understand this is a must-win election. She is very savvy so I’m trusting she knows what she is doing.

Thank you for bringing up the need to appeal to independent voters and the importance of endorsements from Republicans like the Cheneys. I read somewhere that Harris is pulling 11% of Republican voters who know how dangerous Trump is. That could make a big difference in this election.

I have my fingers crossed she will end military support for Israel once she is elected, but she can’t afford to come out on one side or the other any more than she has already prior to the election. While there is a moral right answer, there is no stance she could take prior to being elected which would please enough people to be politically advantageous. So she is doing the quietest thing she can and keeping status quo. Again I just hope, once she has the power to enact policy, she uses US resources to END human suffering, not continue to enable it.

Yeah. that’s the hope. though I wish I had more faith it would happen.

We are looking at turning around 80 years of tragic support.

Thanks for the insights on Harris’ strategy. My son and I had a lengthy conversation about this yesterday. The VP’s failure to distance herself from Biden’s wildly unpopular Israel policy (particularly among young voters and progressives) and to take a stand against the war crimes perpetrated by Netanyahu are beyond frustrating. I understand the need to “court” the electoral college, but I also believe her strategy is the cause of dangerous levels of voter apathy.

It’s a moral disaster. Whether it hurts electorally is hard to tell. I think there’s a lot of impassioned support for Israel, and that’s part of why she’s trying to avoid the issue.

::Harris should also, in my opinion, distance herself from Biden’s horrific Israel policies, which are immoral, unpopular, and expose her to huge downside risks as the situation in the Middle East becomes more and more unstable.::

Except among the AIPAC crowd, who will (if they already haven't!) throw their support to Trump because Bloodthirsty Bibi told them to! That alone could be enough to tip a close election like this one in Trump's favor....

Legalizing marijuana on a Federal level has the same risks—it's widely popular...but it has powerful lobbies who oppose it like Big Pharma, the liquor industry, and the cops who love them an excuse to bust otherwise innocent people for something most of the country thinks deserves to be legalized.

I took Harris's courting "Never Trump" Republicans a bit differently than you did. To me, it's her smartly shattering the Republican coalition and using Donald J. Trump as the stake to drive between the parts of it.
