I’m so sick of hearing people rip on Meghan Markle. She and Prince Harry are a beautiful couple with 2 beautiful children just trying to live their lives. It’s bad enough that his family is a bunch of racist, elites but it so many every day trashy people like Ms McCain feel entitled to talk trash. They need to shut up and do half the good work Meghan and Harry do for others!

That this racist garbage comes from Meghan McCain gives it an extra level of awfulness. What a vile person. And how uniquely American conservative is it to simp for the fucking crown while also being racist. You can't make up that kind of pathologically obsession with hierarchy.

It makes sense from a twisted viewpoint. If our fake meritocratic hierarchy didn't exist, Meghan McCain wouldn't be anybody.

Princess Do You Know Who My Father is/was. Her entire career is based on the McCain name, not her “talent.”

Yup. She's kinda like RFK jr. that way.

I appreciate that you regularly remind folks how much racism affects class issues and the lack of progress in society.

thanks! and thanks for joining!

Exactly right. All of the meritocracy pushers can shut up forever with the blatant and cartoonish deviance, criminality, and white, male, mediocrity on display in the incoming Trump administration.

This type of "subtle" racism is so central to keeping communities functionally segregated. It's not called out enough.

"Racism can’t just be reduced to class struggle"

This was one of the big things that propelled me out of the Berniesphere. I spent way too much time and energy trying to make this point to a group of people that largely refused to care, and then watched those same people welcome the likes of Tulsi gabbard, brie brie, and Chapo with open arms because they were True Progressive ™️ comrades.

I had a similar journey before I left 350.org.

The founder teaches at a college here in Vermont. When that rural college invited a speaker known for his antiquated, genetic racism the 350.org founder defended this invitation on the basis of Free speech.

The college only changed its mind after noisy demonstrations by largely Black students and community members.

I raise this problem of clear, racial bias with a few people in my local 350 chapter, and got radio silence. I don’t know if their response would’ve been different were I a person of color, but I doubt the outcome would’ve been different.

Thanks for this articulate essay as usual going into the weeds with clarity and good information!

I would actually say Kate Middleton is as much a bigot as Meghan McCain, and it's more sickening because she's royalty now, and she's doing it to family.

So I have very little sympathy for "Princess Kate"—as I've said before, "A bigot with cancer is still a bigot."

I'm not really sure we know exactly what Kate has done and hasn't? the reporting I've heard has suggested that Charles and William were the ones most implicated. (I don't follow the royals that closely in general though.)

Megan says Kate Middleton is the one who treated her like garbage, which is why I'm especially angry at her. I expected Charles to something of a bigot because...look at his father, the man Jeremy Clarkson(!) called "a Greek Racialist(!!!)".

When you're so racist Clarkson notices, that's pretty bad.
