This Week's Writing 12/27/26
baskets full of kitties
It’s the holidays! Posting may be somewhat reduced, though I need to binge a bunch of films for year end rating purposes, so will probably be posting reviews here. We’ll see how it goes!
In the meantime! Lost a client, as often happens as the year dies. I’m not panicking, but not not panicking, exactly, so if you felt like helping me weather the collapse of the freelancing industry, subscribing to the newsletter is a big help. It’s $50/year, $5/month.
Here’s what I published this week.
Politics
Trump’s Epstein coverup won’t work. (Public Notice)
ER’s need to stop giving nonconsensual pregnancy tests in the Dobbs era. (Religion Dispatches)
Matt Yglesias’ piece on CRT is pretty racist. (EIH)
Cultural Criticism
Emily Dickinson and white entitlement. (EIH)
Bugonia is a hive of heartfelt misanthropy. (EIH)
Die, My Love is irritating and incoherent Oscar bait. (EIH)
Poetry
A Golden Shovel on Gwendolyn Brooks about art and gibberish. (Lothlorien)
An intrepid kangaroo tries to change the world. (Nat1 Publishing)
Never leave the house. (Five Fleas)
Vocabulary
I don’t know the names of trees.
I don’t know the names of flowers.I am an indoor poet!
I count my books,
every page without a name.

Hi Noah- I’m really looking forward to your year end lists. Question: in the Public Notice piece, you refer to Trumps crimes as “sexual improprieties.” This felt to me like holding back. Was that an editorial decision? It stood out to me and I hope it’s ok that I’m asking.
